Guatemalan Textbook Project

The Rotary Club of Westerville Sunrise has completed a donation to the Guatemalan Textbook Project.

The Club's donation of $2,500 combined with matching funds from Rotary organizations will allow a purchase of $8,750 worth of textbook for students in need in Guatemala.

This will allow approximately 350 students to receive four books each, covering core subjects of math, science, Spanish language and social studies. Guatemala has a 70% illiteracy rate, the highest in South America. This program is targeting rural middle schools where school is currently being taught without the benefit of textbooks. Studies have shown that textbooks increase a student's learning by over 70%.

This donation represents the Club's 3rd donation to Rotary International Projects in the last three years. The donated funds come from the fundraising activities of the Club's major fundraiser, The Wendy's Chili Open.
