Dr. Ram Gawande Offers Incentive for Foundation Giving District Governor Designate Ram Gawande of the Rotary Club of Athens has offered a generous incentive to Rotarians to make contributions to the Rotary International Foundation before the end of the Rotary Year on June 30, 2007. Dr. Gawande will match every dollar given to the Rotary International Foundation from Rotarians in District 6690 up to a maximum of $25,000.
Dr. Gawande is a model for all Rotarians. In the October 2006 edition of the AAPI Journal he wrote an article entitled "Don?t Wait" in which he relates a personal experience that made him realize that he shouldn't wait until later in life to give: "So, my advice to my friends and myself is: Don't wait until you retire to give one million dollars to the cause you believe. Give a dollar today and see what and how it changes you and makes you happy. That one dollar may be the most important gift you have ever made. It may show you the miracle of giving and getting involved. One would never know what would happen to your wishes in thirty years from now."
It is not too late for your annual contribution to the RI Foundation. If you haven't yet made your annual contribution please get your check to Glen Epting before the end of the year so we can leverage the gift with Dr. Gawande's generous offer.
Youth Exchange - One More Opportunity What a great Rotary club we have! Most clubs have great difficulties with finding even one host family before the student arrives here... Well, have have now filled all six spots for our two long term inbound students coming in August, and we are hosting an extra short term student this summer. Thank you to all host families! Now we have one more opportunity!
If we have a host family, we can also host one more short term student this summer. Her name is Elif Resitoglu, and she is from Turkey. I expect her travel dates to be from about July 10 to August 16. I have attached her application ( ). Please contact Walter Lundstrom if you would like to host.
Here is a list the host families, students, and counselors:
Long term (one school year) Laura Cataldi (France) Counselor: Bill McMurray 1st family: Bob and Sapna Welch 2nd family: Gail and Walter Lundstrom 3rd family: Gene and Jessica Hollins Isabella Cunha (Brazil) Counselor: John Timmerman 1st family: Gary and Sheri Cook 2nd family: Bill and Cindy Golden 3rd family: Mark and Diana Welling

Update on Next Year's Committees Please find attached the DRAFT of our club committees for the new Rotary year ( ). The assignments are based on my conversations with members and your response to our recent committee survey. Please review the assignments and let me know of any changes or additions that we need to make. You can email me at:
For those of you not yet assigned to a committee I will make committee assignments where we need additional help if I do not hear from you. Of course if you are involved in the District Conference committees that will take preference over additional club committee assignments. Thank you, Bob Horbatt President Elect
District Conference 2008 For anyone who attended this year's District Conference, you experienced firsthand what a large undertaking it is for the hosting Club. As you know our Club is responsible for hosting the 2008 District Conference which will be held at the Hilton at Easton on April 24-27, 2008.
Bob Coco, co-Chair of the 2008 District Conference Planning Committee, gave 2007 attendees a preview of next year's conference which includes programs for Rotarians, partners, and children. The different tracts are designed to encourage Rotarians to bring the whole family and celebrate the Rotary year. In addition to the annual Golf Outing, next year's conference will include a party and dance at the Wexner party barn on Friday night of the conference.
If you are not currently involved in planning for next year's conference please contact Bob Coco or Sam Glaviano.
Happy Hour - June 7th The Fellowship Committee is hosting a happy hour for members to socialize at the Old Bag of Nails in Uptown Westerville on Thursday, June 7th, from 5 to 8 pm.
